5 Things I’m Doing This Spring to Protect My Feet from Gout Flare-Ups

Happy senior couple riding a tandem-bicycle through pink spring flowers.

Spring is in full swing now, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve already been soaking it up—walking more, spending time in the yard, maybe even firing up the grill.

But here’s the thing: when we start moving more and enjoying the season, it’s easy to forget how quickly a gout flare-up can sneak in. A little too much of the wrong foods, one long day on our feet, and suddenly, we’re limping through the best time of the year.

So now that spring is rolling along, I’m making sure I stay on track with these five things to keep my feet happy, moving, and gout-free. If you’ve been feeling good so far—let’s keep it that way! And if you’re already feeling a little stiff, these might help turn things around.

1. Staying On Top of Hydration 💧 (Because It’s Easy to Get Lazy!)

At the start of spring, I was drinking my water like a champ. Now? I’ve caught myself slipping back into bad habits—not drinking enough, reaching for more coffee, and forgetting that hydration is key to flushing out excess uric acid.

So, I’m doubling down:
✅ A full glass of water first thing in the morning
✅ Keeping a water bottle with me outside (gardening = sneaky dehydration)
✅ Cutting back on sugary drinks (harder than it sounds, I know!)

👉 If you’ve been slacking on water lately, consider this your reminder! Staying hydrated now means fewer flare-ups later.

2. Keeping My BBQ Plate in Check 🍗 (Even Though It’s Tempting!)

I love a good cookout. And let’s be honest—by mid-April, most of us have already had our fair share of burgers, steaks, and maybe a cold beer or two. But red meat, alcohol, and rich foods can build up uric acid fast.

I’m not saying don’t enjoy a BBQ—I’m just making sure I balance it out:
✅ More grilled chicken and fish
✅ Extra veggies on my plate
✅ Drinking water between any alcoholic drinks

👉 If you’ve been going all-in on the BBQ, now’s a good time to switch things up before a flare-up sneaks in.

3. Pacing Myself with Spring Activities 🚶 (Because Overdoing It = Trouble)

I started this season full of energy—walking more, working in the yard, maybe even pretending I could still move like I did in my 30s. Big mistake. Overworking stiff joints and muscles can trigger inflammation, and before you know it—bam, gout flare-up.

So, I’m being smarter:
Taking breaks during yard work (instead of pushing through)
Stretching first before long walks
Listening to my body instead of ignoring the warning signs

👉 If you’ve been pushing yourself hard this spring, maybe it’s time to dial it back just a bit.

4. Keeping My Feet Cool & Comfortable 👟 (Because Swollen Feet = Risky Feet)

It’s getting warmer out, which means more sweating, swelling, and stress on the feet. And for those of us who deal with gout, that’s not a good combo.

So, I’m making sure my feet stay comfortable:
✅ Wearing breathable shoes (no more stiff boots!)
✅ Choosing moisture-wicking socks to keep my feet dry
✅ Elevating my feet after a long day outside

👉 If your feet have been swelling or aching more lately, try cooling them down with a soak in cool water—it’s a game-changer.

5. Staying Consistent with Lifetones 🌿 (Because It’s Too Easy to Forget!)

At the beginning of spring, I was taking my Uric Acid Support like clockwork. But once I started feeling good, I caught myself skipping doses here and there. And that’s when the little aches started creeping back in.

Now? I’m back on my routine—every single morning, no excuses.

I take the Uric Acid Support Tincture every morning because it works fast, and I want my joints to be as ready as I am when I head outside for the day. But when I’m on the go—whether I’m out for a long walk, running errands, or even spending the afternoon paddleboarding—I keep the Uric Acid Support Capsules with me. They’re easy to take, no hassle, and perfect for those busy spring days.

👉 If you’ve been inconsistent with your Lifetones, now’s the time to get back on track before a flare-up hits!

Let’s Make the Rest of Spring Discomfort-Free! 🌸

Spring is already flying by, and I don’t want to miss a single good day because of joint pain. If you’ve been feeling good, let’s keep it that way! And if you’ve noticed more stiffness creeping in, it’s not too late to get ahead of it.

What’s been working for you so far this season? Got any tips for keeping gout at bay? Let me know—I’m always up for learning something new!

Here’s to a strong, discomfort-free spring!
