Fitness Routine Tips and Tricks

When you go to the gym or work out in the comfort of your own home, you tend to want to see results. Whether your goal is to better your overall health or get fit for other benefits, it’s good to have a routine and to know exactly what you should be doing.

Follow these tips and tricks to help you along your exercise journey.

  • Understand It Won't Be Easy

If you haven’t exercised in a while, keep in mind that you will have some discomfort. There will be times when you are experiencing shortness of breath and aching muscles.

This is normal, and it’s something you’ll have to accept instead of getting discouraged. It won’t last forever. Try stretching before and after to help adjust to the discomfort.

  • Start Slow

Make sure that when starting you don’t take on too much too soon. It’s important to start slow and work your way up by increasing your workouts each week; it’s best to only increase them by 10% to avoid taking on too much.

Also, remember that consistency is key. Try to avoid frequent starts and stops as you adjust and increase your routine. Results will show through consistent activity.

  • Drink Water

Ensure that you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially before, during, and after workouts. If you are exercising in warm conditions, it is extremely important to drink water to avoid entering a state of dehydration.

  • Pick a Time

Plan out what time of the day works best for you. Some people are early birds and can wake up to exercise before their busy schedule commences, while other people go to bed late and sleep in. Think about what time of the day you have the most energy and plan to work out consistently at that time.

  • Create Smaller Goals

Willpower is stronger when you are working toward your own goals. Break your goals down into stages or smaller goals to keep you motivated along the way.

Keep in mind that it's normal to have setbacks along the way, and don't be too hard on yourself.

Always consult with your healthcare professional before starting a new exercise routine.
